He attends town board meetings throughout his district, he shows up at local events and he even writes a weekly column published in The Millerton News to keep his constituents updated on county news. There is no doubt that Kelsey has earned his place in the Dutchess County Legislature ... His diligence and his thoughtful approach to his work have earned him both this paper's endorsement and its respect.

Wellness on the Western Front

By Western front, I mean Poughkeepsie, and while not all is well, things are looking up. This month, by a 24-1 margin the County Legislature moved initiatives of new County Executive Marc Molinaro forward in crucial areas of economic development and solid waste planning. Contrary to possible inferences, these were not rubber-stamping votes. The Legislature was critical – asking probing questions and performing soul-searching – and the Molinaro administration had to exert effort to work to curry favor, and they did. We proved that the democratic process worked while moving forward important initiatives. This is how I define wellness.

3 to seek GOP nod for 103rd Assembly

Nothing is official until Gov. Andrew Cuomo calls for a special election, but a Dutchess County legislator, a former state lawmaker and a former member of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s staff have confirmed their candidacies for the Assembly seat vacated by County Executive Marc Molinaro.
Patrick Manning, who was ousted from his seat in the 103rd District when he lost a Republican primary election to Molinaro in September 2006, said he is seeking the Republican nomination for his old job. He is being opposed by county Legislator Michael Kelsey, R-Pleasant Valley, and Millbrook resident Richard Wager, Kelsey and Wager confirmed.
Kelsey said he had let party leaders know of his interest in early December, “and I’ve been going door to door to talk to members of the town committees.”
